Ballarat Upstart Challenge
Get Involved in 2021!
We are pleased to announce that the Upstart Challenge will be back in Ballarat for 2021, for the fourth year in a row!
Our teacher-led program is mapped to the Australian Curriculum and has been designed to be delivered to the whole class with minimal preparation from the teacher.
Register your school’s interest using this form and we’ll be in touch soon!
And the winner is…
CONGRATULATIONS to Beth Wright, from Year 10 at Loreto College for being named Ballarat’s Young Entrepreneur of the Year for 2020!
With environmental impact at the heart, Beth’s business idea is Ecolo – a mobile app that scans barcodes on beauty products to provide information about the environmental impact of the product. Armed with this information, consumers can then make more conscious decisions about their purchases. Beth has won $1000 for her idea!
People’s Choice Award
Team Hydrozoid won the People’s Choice Award – voted for by the audience during the Showcase – with a prize of $300!
Team Members: Carmen Gallardo, Joshua Di Mieri and Zoe Daniel from Year 9, Bacchus Marsh Grammar
Big Idea: Hydrozoid is a renewable, clean energy device that generates electricity through the currents of water, aimed at providing rural communities in the developing world with easier access to power.
