Upstart HQ

We think it's so important to share the (local) love and highlight some of the important work being done across our region.

It's estimated that 2,000 meals a day are distributed to those in need across our community, a situation that's been made worse during the pandemic. Feed Geelong financially assists those organisations who are working hard every day to feed those most in need.

You can join Feed Geelong on Brown Paper Bag Day (16th October) by donating what you would normally spend on your lunch to help someone who may not be having a regular lunch (or dinner).

Brown Paper Bag Day is a wonderful way to get your entire team on board with helping Feed Geelong. You can register your business or school to take part OR you can simply donate your lunch money by visiting their website: https://www.feedgeelong.org.au/

Upstart HQ1 in 5 Australians, young and old, are affected by mental illness annually, yet many don’t seek help because of stigma.

This year has been especially tough for so many people, and it's never been more important to have those conversations and prioritise your mental health.

Mental Health Australia are asking all Australians to make a Mental Health Promise. Here are some ways you can help keep a healthy mind:

🚶 Stay active, and get out in the fresh air.

💤 Get an early night. Getting quality sleep does wonders for your mental health!

🗣️ Stay connected with friends and family, whether that's safely in-person or virtually. Don't be afraid to let them know you need support <3

What's your mental health promise? Visit Mental Health Australia for more helpful advice and resources.

Upstart HQ

At Upstart, we're so pleased to see the opportunities for young people and school leavers announced earlier this week, as part of the 2020-2021 budget.

Employment and training opportunities under the new JobMaker and JobTrainer schemes are estimated to create 450,000 jobs!

These opportunities, combined with entrepreneurial education, will help show young people that there are many different pathways for employment.

Preparing them with essential life and employability skills will give them confidence to enter the workplace and show them more about opportunities they can build for themselves. 👏

More information about the budget can be found here 👉 https://www.abc.net.au/triplej/programs/hack/whats-in-the-2020-budget-for-young-people/12737118
